About Megan

Megan Bruening is a talented ceramic artist based in Visalia, CA. Her passion for clay began in high school, where she first discovered love for ceramics. It wasn't until her senior year at Whitworth University in Spokane, Washington that she learned the art of wheel throwing. Throughout her college years, Megan made sure to take at least one art class per semester to keep her creativity flowing and to "stay sane". She ultimately earned a minor in art and a BA in Mathematics.

In October 2020, two years after graduating college and while working a corporate job, COVID-19 swept the world. She stumbled upon a small 30-year-old ceramics kiln on Facebook marketplace that she couldn't resist. After saving up for a few months to get a new pottery wheel, she finally started throwing clay and this became her COVID hobby.

In April 2021, she taught herself how to throw ceramics by watching YouTube videos and practicing diligently. Although firing up the kiln for the first time was a bit daunting, she continued to create items for her own enjoyment. Eventually, she had enough pieces to sell and decided to test the market at a local holiday pop-up in December 2021. To her surprise, she did well at her first show and was thrilled to see complete strangers appreciating her work. This success inspired her to participate in more art shows, and her skills continued to improve with each new creation.

Megan currently participates in around 12 markets per year, all while managing full-time job. To keep up with her upcoming events, head over to the events page!
